Collecting amber

Collecting amber

When we are at the sea, many of us set out to look for amber. The best time to do this is after a storm. When the sea calms down and the waves are about one-metre-high, they lift tree branches and debris from the seabed and wash amber ashore with them. Although amber comes in a variety of colours, including white, green, blue and red, we usually find yellow amber, which is why it is sometimes called ‘sun stone’. A lot of amber is thrown out of the sea on the central beach of Juodkrantė, so while relaxing and taking a pleasant walk along the seashore after a storm, when the wind subsides, you will definitely find many wonderful sun stones. But most importantly, they can be found all year round, so good luck looking for and enjoying those little yellow sun stones!
